我正在拿水果，你先过来帮我一下吧。

Wǒ zhèng zài ná shuǐ guǒ, nǐ xiān guò lái bāng wǒ yí xià ba.

I’m getting the fruit. Come over and help me first.

小林

好，我过去。我们别太晚了。

Hǎo, wǒ guò qù. Wǒ men bié tài wǎn le.

Okay, I’ll go over. Let’s not be too late.

小雨

谢谢，我拿好水果就下去。

Xiè xiè, wǒ ná hǎo shuǐ guǒ jiù xià qù.

Thanks. I’ll come down after I get the fruit ready.

小林

都十点了，我们快去朋友家吧。

Dōu shí diǎn le, wǒ men kuài qù péng yǒu jiā ba.

Learning Note

When visiting a friend, grandparents are elders. Greet them first, then bring the fruit over.

Pattern: `动词 + 来/去`

动词 + 来/去

`来` means the action moves toward the speaker; `去` means it moves away from the speaker.

你上来帮我一下吧。

Nǐ shàng lái bāng wǒ yí xià ba.

Come up and help me for a moment.

我现在下去找你。

Wǒ xiàn zài xià qù zhǎo nǐ.

I will go down to find you now.

Pattern: `上/下/过 + 来/去`

上/下/过 + 来/去

`上来`, `下去`, `过来`, and `过去` make the direction more specific, often for upstairs/downstairs or moving closer/farther.

请你拿水果过来。

Qǐng nǐ ná shuǐ guǒ guò lái.

Please bring the fruit over here.

他们已经走过去了。

Tā men yǐ jīng zǒu guò qù le.

They have already walked over there.

Pattern: `都 + 时间/程度 + 了`

都 + 时间/程度 + 了

`都...了` often shows that the speaker feels something is already late, numerous, or has reached a certain point.

都十点了，我们快走吧。

Dōu shí diǎn le, wǒ men kuài zǒu ba.

It is already ten. Let’s leave quickly.

孩子都五岁了。

Hái zi dōu wǔ suì le.

The child is already five years old.
