Listen and Read

Order dishes with friends and say that any dish or time is fine.

这家饭馆又干净又安静，我们就在这儿吃吧。
Zhè jiā fàn guǎn yòu gān jìng yòu ān jìng, wǒ men jiù zài zhèr chī ba.
This restaurant is clean and quiet. Let’s eat here.

好啊。菜单上有这么多菜，我不知道点什么。
Hǎo a. Cài dān shàng yǒu zhè me duō cài, wǒ bù zhī dào diǎn shén me.
Good. There are so many dishes on the menu that I do not know what to order.
小林
你想吃什么就点什么，我都可以。
Nǐ xiǎng chī shén me jiù diǎn shén me, wǒ dōu kě yǐ.
Order whatever you want to eat. Anything is fine with me.

那我点一个鸡肉饭，再要一杯绿茶。
Nà wǒ diǎn yí gè jī ròu fàn, zài yào yì bēi lǜ chá.
Then I will order chicken rice and a cup of green tea.

服务员说手机也能点外卖，真方便。
Fú wù yuán shuō shǒu jī yě néng diǎn wài mài, zhēn fāng biàn.

Pattern: `又...又...`

又 + adjective + 又 + adjective

Use `又...又...` before adjectives to say that two qualities are both true.

这家饭馆又便宜又好吃。
Zhè jiā fàn guǎn yòu pián yi yòu hǎo chī.
This restaurant is both cheap and tasty.
这杯茶又香又热。
Zhè bēi chá yòu xiāng yòu rè.
This cup of tea is both fragrant and hot.

Pattern: `什么/谁/哪儿 + 都`

question word + 都 + verb/adjective

A question word plus `都` can mean “any” or “every,” not a real question.

你点什么饮料我都可以。
Nǐ diǎn shén me yǐn liào wǒ dōu kě yǐ.
Any drink you order is fine with me.
这儿的菜哪个都不错。
Zhèr de cài nǎ gè dōu bú cuò.
Any dish here is pretty good.

Pattern: `想...就...`

想 + verb + 什么，就 + verb + 什么

Repeating the same question word links a choice with its result: whatever you choose, do that.

你想喝什么就喝什么。
Nǐ xiǎng hē shén me jiù hē shén me.
Drink whatever you want to drink.
你想什么时候来就什么时候来。
Nǐ xiǎng shén me shí hòu lái jiù shén me shí hòu lái.
Come whenever you want to come.

Learning Note

Be careful with `都` and repeated question words.

`什么都可以` means “anything is fine.” `想吃什么就吃什么` adds a stronger sense of free choice: choose it, then do it.
